Closing the Gap

Closing the Gap (CtG) is a programme of projects and initiatives which aim to:

  • Address city-wide priorities identified by school leaders
  • Develop and maintain long-term, city-wide activity which contributes to improving pupil outcomes
  • Ensure de-delegated funding is used effectively, where it is needed most

The work is governed by a Steering Group of primary headteachers which includes representatives from Leicester Primary Partnership (LPP) and the LA. In response to local need, they commission well-known providers including Teaching Schools and education consultants to lead high-quality programmes and training. Priorities are identified through a combination of data analysis, surveying schools and intelligence gathered from School Improvement Leicester (SIL). These priorities are regularly reviewed, using Leicester Primary Partnership as the main forum.

School Eligibility

Involvement with any CTG project is free of charge for Leicester City maintained Primary schools. We warmly welcome non-maintained schools to take part, but a charge will apply. All costs are calculated to ensure they are competitive and reflect good value for money.

Due to the nature of the funding, there are a couple of exceptions to this. For a small number of projects academies will be eligible to access free of charge, which is dependant on the date they converted. More information about this can be found on the projects and training page.
